Laundry Cleaning Tips

Nappies

Reusable nappies can be up to 40% kinder to the environment if laundered responsibly! Here are some helpful tips for parents using reusable nappies using traditional and natural products from Dri-Pak:

  • Use a bucket with a lid to store soiled nappies. Consider a mesh liner so that the nappies can be moved without having to touch them.

  • Periodically sprinkle naturally deodorising Bicarbonate of Soda into the bucket to help prevent smells.

  • Prior to washing, soak the nappies in a hot Soda Crystal solution to remove stains.

  • Use a non-biological washing powder or liquid, as biological detergents are more likely to irritate a baby's sensitive skin. Add Soda Crystals to the wash to soften the water and aid cleaning - you'll find you need far less detergent also!

  • For very sensitive skin use Liquid Soap Flakes and a scoop of Soda Crystals in place of detergent. Containing only pure soap, Liquid Soap Flakes gently clean without fragrances or detergent that can irritate skin. To prevent the nappies losing absorbency, an occasional hot wash with a White Vinegar rinse will eliminate any soap build-up on the nappies.

  • Fabric softeners leave a residue on the fabric that affects absorbency. Instead use White Vinegar; it's a great natural alternative to fabric softener!

  • Periodically run a hot wash using half a bag of Soda Crystals to eliminate any smells and wash bacteria out of the machine.
