How to make your own washing Powder

Making your own washing powder is quick, easy and extremely cost effective!

Simply combine one pack of Borax Substitute and half a bag of Soda Crystals in a Tupperware container. (You may use up to a bag of Soda Crystals if you live in a hard water area.) Then add two tablespoons of Soap Flakes, and 2 table spoons of Oxygen bleach (if required) and shake well.

Add two to three tablespoons of the detergent in your washing load. The washing powder will last for approximately ten washes, with the average cost of 22p per load.

This recipe is suitable for washes of 40 degrees or over so as to ensure the Soap Flakes dissolve properly. For cooler washes, substitute Soap Flakes with Liquid Soap Flakes. The liquid Soap Flakes will absorb into the powder, but ensure you give it a good shake before use. You can also add a few drops of essential oils for fragranced washing powder.
